How can sonic aesthetics developed in the electroacoustic music community contribute to sound design for interactive products? What creative processes and tools are used by composers of electroacoustic music and live electronics? How can the demands of industry and branding be linked to sonic interaction design strategies? These were some of the questions investigated by Daniel Hug in a series of interviews with experts in the domain. Moreover he conducted several hands-on design sessions with sound designers, in order to evaluate the conceptual framework that he developed for his Doctoral thesis.
Thee IRCAM was an ideal environment for this scientific mission, as it is one of the most important institutes for electronic and computer-based music and sound creation. The scientific mission was hosted by Nicolas Misdariis from the group for sound design and perception, which collaborates, among others, with the french railway and Peugeot.
The resesarch visit was funded by the European COST-action Sonic Interaction Design.
